Introduced in 2015, the Wines of Substance brand was conceived by Charles Smith with a single-minded vision: to produce the best value-priced Cabernet Sauvignon in America. Substance ‘Cs’ Cabernet Sauvignon is made with traditional winemaking techniques: natural fermentations, barrel-aging and bottled unfiltered and unfined. In essence, Charles makes Substance wines with small batch winemaking integrity on an unprecedented scale.
With the success of Substance Cs, the brand expanded to include Substance Vineyard Collection – a single-vineyard collection that includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc varietals. These wines are a modern expression of the classic Bordeaux varietals paired with a Loire-style Sauvignon Blanc.
The latest chapters in the Substance book are the ‘Pn’ Pinot Noir, ‘Ch’ Chardonnay and ‘Sb’ Sauvignon Blanc, which express the same vision as the flagship ‘Cs’ Cabernet Sauvignon.
